Men's Cross Country Earns All-Academic Distinction

Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The 2002 University of Miami men’s cross country team earned All-Academic distinction by the United States Cross Country Coaches Association.

The Hurricanes ranked 50th in the nation, and fourth among BIG EAST schools, with a team grade point average of 3.12. Troy State ranked No. 1 in the nation with a 3.57 team GPA.

The seven member squad included sophomore Danish Ahmad (Miami Ransom Everglades), sophomore Billy Bludgus (Bayonne, NJ), senior Dan Boniface (Seattle, WA), freshman Alex Brutvan (Boca Raton, FL), freshman James Mullaly (Ellicott City, MD), sophomore Matt Maloney (Concord, NH) and junior Matt Mulvaney (South Hadley, MA).

The Hurricanes recorded two meet victories during the 2002 season and were ranked in the South Region for the final five weeks of the season. The Hurricanes reached a season-high ranking of eight on October 17th and qualified for the NCAA South Region Championship were they finished 12th.

Other BIG EAST teams earning All-Academic distinction included Notre Dame (3.36 GPA), Virginia Tech (3.35 GPA) and Syracuse (3.23 GPA).
