Women's Basketball Opens BIG EAST Play

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s basketball team opens BIG EAST play traveling to face Georgetown Saturday at 4 p.m. in McDonough Arena in Washington, D.C.
The Hurricanes (8-3) will ride a five-game winning streak into the first of a three-game BIG EAST road swing including Syracuse and No. 13 Notre Dame.
Georgetown (7-1) has won the last two games and is a perfect 4-0 at home this season.
Miami leads the all-time series 12-8 over Georgetown and has won the last three meetings between the two teams.
The Hurricanes are 6-5 all-time in conference openers and 2-4 all-time in conference openers on the road.
Miami was selected to finish seventh in the BIG EAST pre-season poll while Georgetown was selected to finish 11th.
Freshman Tamara James (Dania, Fla.) continues to lead Miami and the BIG EAST averaging 24.2 points per game. James is first on the team and third in the conference with 9.5 rebounds per game.
Junior Rebekkah Brunson leads the Hoyas averaging 17.9 points and 12.0 rebounds per game. Brunson was named to the pre-season All-BIG EAST Second team.
