Women's Golf Heads To Pine Needles Collegiate

Southern Pines, NC (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s golf team returns to action November 4-5 at the Pine Needles Collegiate being played at Pine Needles Golf Course in Southern Pines, NC.
The par 71, 6,017 yard course was the site of the 1996 U.S. Women’s Open and is scheduled to host the U.S. Women’s Open again in 2007.
The 11-team field boasts some of the nation’s top programs including 15th-ranked North Carolina, 26th-ranked Baylor and 33rd-ranked North Carolina State. Rounding out the field are James Madison, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Richmond, Rollins, Stetson and Yale.
The 54-hole tournament will consist of 36 holes being played on Monday, November 4 followed by 18 holes on Tuesday, November 5. The tournament is scheduled to open with a shot-gun start at 8:30 a.m. Monday. A double tee start is scheduled for Tuesday with groups beginning play on the first and 10th holes at 8 a.m.
Junior Camilla Hilland (Lommedalen, Norway) has led Hurricanes, who are fresh off a second-place finish at last week’s Lady Panther Intercollegiate. Hilland, ranked 15th in the nation, recorded her second career win with a victory at the Lady Panther Intercollegiate and has a team-best 72.4 stroke average this season.
Hilland, who is one of the favorites to take the individual title, is the second highest ranked individual in the field. North Carolina’s Ashley Prange enters the tournament ranked 13th in the nation.
Also playing well for the Hurricanes this season is junior Jazmin Cataldo (Asuncion, Paraguay) who finished in second-place at the Lady Panther, one-stroke behind Hilland. Cataldo ranks second on the team with a 75.8 stroke average.
