Volleyball Takes On Villanova and Georgetown This Weekend

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami volleyball team (14-0, 2-0 BIG EAST) looks to continue its undefeated season and perfect conference record as it travels to Villanova (9-10, 0-2 BIG EAST) on Saturday and Georgetown (9-7, 1-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday.

Miami is coming off its first BIG EAST victories of the season, defeating Boston College in four games (37-35, 29-31, 30-21, 30-14) last Saturday and sweeping Providence 3-0 (30-12, 30-15, 30-21) on Sunday. The Hurricanes currently sit atop the BIG EAST standings as the only undefeated team in the conference with a perfect 2-0 conference mark.

Villanova enters the contest on Saturday on a four-game losing streak, falling to the Penn Quakers in three-consecutive games on Wednesday. The Wildcats, winless in conference play, are currently 12th in the BIG EAST standings with a 9-10 overall record and 0-2 conference mark.

Georgetown, who was picked to finish 4th in the preseason rankings, sit at the sixth spot with a 1-1 conference mark. The Hoyas are coming off a 3-0 loss to George Mason on Tuesday. They are led by senior middle blocker Anna Kleinsorge, who is averaging 2.37 kills per game and hitting .374 on the season.

The Hurricanes will also face 2001 BIG EAST Rookie of the Year and 2002 Preseason All-BIG EAST selection Sara Albert. The sophomore middle blocker, leads the team in total blocks with 72, while averaging 1.29 blocks per game. Additionally, Albert averages 2.36 kills per game with a .369 attack percentage.

The Hurricanes currently hold the nation’s longest winning streak with 25 consecutive victories dating back to October 5, 2001.
