Volleyball To Play At Florida International Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miamiwomen’s volleyball team (7-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) will roll into the Golden Panther Arena Friday morning for the Florida International Fall Classic.
The Hurricanes will face in-state rival Florida State Friday at 11 a.m. The only common opponent Miami and FSU have faced is Oregon. Both teams swept the Pac-10 team in three games.After playing Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis Friday at 5 p.m., Miami will prepare for a Saturday 7 p.m. match against cross-town rival Florida International.
This season, Miami is undefeated and fresh from a tournament in which it did not lose a single game to three different opponents.
Senior outside hitter Marcela Gamarra (Medellin, Colombia/Miami-Dade CC) leads the Hurricanes in kills with 101 (4.21 per game).
Sophomore rightside hitter Valeria Tipiana (Lima, Peru/Cristo Rey HS) leads in attack percentage with .354 and sophomore setter Mallorey James leads Miami in assists with 228 (12.67 per game).
James also leads the team from the service line with eight aces.On defense, libero player Jamie Grass leads UM with 89 digs (3.71 per game).Freshman middle blocker Karla Johnson leads the team at the net with 30.0 total blocks.
Miami has the best non-conference record among Big East Conference team and is the only one without a loss to date.
