UM's Dan Andrews places second in 400 at Parathlete World Championships

University of Miami sophomore Dan Andrews finished second in the 400-meter dash Wednesday at the IPC Athletics World Championships in Lille, France.

Andrews, who runs with a prosthetic leg, recorded a time of 56.19 seconds in his second place finish in the 400-meters. Coming in first in the event was the Australian runner Neil Fuller, who recorded a time of 55.73 seconds.

Andrews set an American record in the 400-meters when he finished first at the Disabled Sports International Challenge in Orlando last May, recording a time of 52.95. This score, along with his 800-meter world mark of 2:08.25 allowed him to qualify for the IPC Athletics World Championships.

In last Monday’s 800-meters, Andrews crossed the finish line in two minutes, 7.18 seconds, and continued to solidify his status as the world’s top parathlete sprinter. He dominated the field, shattering his old world mark by 1.07 seconds along the way. Fellow American Andrew Lester was second in 2:08.59.

He also is slated to compete as part of U.S. relay unit this week in the 4×100 and 4×400-meter relays.
