Baton Rouge, LA (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami senior Aaron Moser will begin competition in the decathlon Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Baton Rouge, LA.

The 2000 All-American and three-time BIG EAST Champion will open the decathlon competition with 100-meters at 4 p.m., followed by the long jump at 4:45, the shot put at 5:45 and the high jump at 6:45. Day one of decathlon competition will conclude with the 400-meters at approximately 9:00 p.m.

“I am a little anxious to get out there and compete because I have not competed in a meet in over a month,” said Moser. “And with this being my final NCAA Championship meet I want to perform well.”

Moser, who redshirted last season while recovering from surgery to repair a ligament in his right elbow, earned All-America honors with a ninth-place finish at the 2000 NCAA Championships in Durham, NC.

Moser, who enters the competition ranked 15th in the nation, expects this year’s meet to be considerably different from his last trip to the NCAA Championships.

“This year they have us competing at a marquee time of the day,” added Moser. “Usually the decathlon events are run early in the day when the temperature and humidity is at its peak. But here they are having us compete in the evening when the temperature will be much cooler. Two years ago in Durham we started at 11:00 a.m. and it must have been 100 degrees.”

Even though he is anxious to get started Moser has enjoyed the opportunity to sit back and be a spectator during the first two days of competition.

“I was telling some people on Wednesday that it is nice to be able to sit and watch the meet a little instead of just jumping in and competing right away. I’ve enjoyed sitting in the stands as a fan and watching others compete.”

The decathlon will conclude on Saturday with the 110-meter hurdles, discus, pole vault, javelin and 1,500-meters.
