University of Miami sophomore Dan Andrews (Holiday, FL) broke his own parathlete World record in the 800-meters and set an American record in the 400-meters this past weekend at the Disabled Sports International Challenge held at Walt Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, FL.
Andrews, who runs with a prosthetic left leg, recorded a time of 2:08.25 in finishing first in the 800-meters. His time broke the old world mark of 2:08.79 which he set in winning the gold medal at the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney, Australia.
Andrews also finished first in the 400-meters with an American record time of 52.95. His times in both events qualify him for the 2002 IPC Athletics World Championships, July 16-29, in Lille, France.
Andrews, who competes as a member of the University of Miami track and field team, will be featured May 14th at 10 p.m. on HBO’s Real Sports hosted by Bryant Gumbel. The show will be replayed on HBO and HBO2 throughout the month.
