Williams Takes Second At BIG EAST

Storrs, CT (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshman Amber Williams (Succasunna, NJ) finished second with a UM record score of 4,951 points at the BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Storrs, CT.
Seton Hall’s Bridgette Ingram won the event with a two-day total of 5,231 points.
Williams, who was in third heading into the final day, recorded 1,782 points on Saturday in finishing second and earning eight points for the Hurricanes as they begin their quest for their fourth BIG EAST championship in the last five seasons.
Williams opened the second day with a leap of 5.71 meters (18-09.00) in the long jump earning 762 points. She then recorded season bests in the javelin (30.05 meters/98-07.00) and 800-meters (2:29.14) to close out the competition. Her throw in the javelin garnered her 478 points while her time in the 800-meters was good for 704 points.
Williams’ mark surpasses the old school-record of 4,833 points, which she set earlier this season at the Texas Relays.
