Miami Places Three on 2002 All America Team

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami placedswimmer Manon van Rooijen and divers Michelle Davison and Katie Beth Bryant onthe Women’s All America Swimming & Diving Team forthe 2001-2002 season.

Van Rooijen, the 2002 BIG EAST Outstanding Women’s Swimmer, placed sixth in boththe 100- and 200-yard freestyle events at the championship meet in Austin, Texasthis past weekend. The sophomore from Westdorpe, Holland currently holds two individualschool records and three records in the relay events.

Senior diver Michelle Davison (Columbia, S.C.) garnered All America honors byplacing fourth in the 1-meter diving event and fifth in the 3-meter competitionin Austin. Davison is the 2002 BIG EAST Women’s Diver of the Year.

Junior Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) earned All America honors in the 1-meterdiving event with a fifth place finish. She also was Honorable Mention All Americain 3-meter diving with a 12th place finish at nationals.

The UM relay team finished 16th in the 400-yard freestyle event to earn HonorableMention All America for junior Christine Williams (Trenton, N.J.), freshman ErinJohns (Saltsburg, Pa.), junior Megan Kinsella (Calgary, Canada) and van Rooijen.

The Hurricane women’s swimming and diving team concluded its season in Austin.

The 2002 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled for March28-30 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgiain Athens. Miami will send four divers to the competition including senior ImreLengyel, senior Stefan Ahrens, junior Kyle Prandi and freshman Miguel Velazquez.
