Davison 5th in 3-Meter Diving, Van Rooijen 6th in 200 Free

Austin, Texas (hurricanesports.com) – Miami’s Michelle Davison took fifthplace in the 3-meter diving competition at the 2002 Women’s NCAA Swimming &Diving Championships at the University of Texas in Austin Friday night.
The senior from Columbia, South Carolina scored 550.85 points in the finals ofthe 3-meter event. Junior Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) finished in 12th place(485.10).
UM swimmer Manon van Rooijen (Westdorpe, Holland) took sixth place in the 200-yardfreestyle with a time of 1:46.79. The time was just off her school record of 1:46.48set at the BIG EAST Championships in February.
“Manon swam a great race in the morning in order to qualify for 6th in finals, and held her spot in finals,” said head swimming coach James Sweeney. “It was a tremendous race and effort as she was just short of moving into the top 4. This is the first top 8 finisher in swimming in the past 6 or 7 years.”
The UM women are in 15th place out of 36 teams with 61 points after the secondday of events in Austin. Other BIG EAST teams include Notre Dame at 20th (36points), Villanova at 26th (11) and Rutgers in 31st (4) The championship concludeson March 23.
The 2002 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled for March28-30 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgiain Athens.
