Miami Sweeps BIG EAST Diving Awards

Uniondale, N.Y. – The University of Miami swept the diving awards at theBIG EAST Championships in Uniondale, New York this weekend.
Senior Imre Lengyel (Budapest, Hungary) was named BIG EAST Most Outstanding Men’sDiver, senior MichelleDavison (Columbia, S.C.) was named BIG EAST Most Outstanding Women’s Diver andhead diving coach Randy Ableman took BIG EAST Men’s and Women’s Diving Coach ofthe Year honors.
Lengyel won the men’s 1-meter competition with 381.30 points and the 3-meter competitionwith 665.80 points. It was the second time he has been honored as the best diverin the conference after winning the distinction in 2000. Junior Kyle Prandi wasthe outstanding diver last season.
2002 marks the 11th consecutive year a Miami men’s diver was named best in theBIG EAST.
For the women, Davison won the 1-meter competition with 300.65 points and wasnamed best in the BIG EAST. Junior Katie Beth Bryant won the 3-meter with 561.85points.
A women’s diver from Miami has now won the honor for seven consecutive years and10 of the last 11.
Head coach Randy Ableman was again honored as the best diving coach in the BIGEAST. He has been named the best women’s coach for the past three seasons andbest men’s coach two of the past three seasons.
Miami swept all four top places in both the men’s 1-meter and 3-meter competitionsthis weekend.
The Hurricane swimming and diving team finished the conference meet in third placeon the women’s side with 488 points and in ninth place for the men with 201 points.
