Miami Splits Dual Meet With FAU

Boca Raton, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – Christine Williams set the fastesttime in the 100-yard freestyle (51.74) so far this season for the UM women’s swimmingteam and Miami defeated FAU 161-143 in Boca Raton.
The Miami men’s team lost 194-81.
Williams, a junior from Trenton, New Jersey, took first in the 100 free and thirdin the 50-yard free. Sophomore Manon van Rooijen (Westdorpe, Holland) won the200-yard free with a time of 1:52.24 and the 100-yard fly at 58.18.
Other first-place finishes for the women included sophomore Courtney Caples inthe 100-yard breast (1:06.67), junior Elaine Schwartz ( Mt. Laurel, N.J.) in the200-yard fly (2:08.30) and 400-yard IM (4:28.54).
For the Miami men, senior Wes Stoddard (Huntsville, Ala.) won the 1000-yard freestyle(9:52.84) and finished second in the 400-yard IM (4:11.35).
Junior Kevin Kerrick (Miami, Fla.) finished first in the 200-yard free (1:46.09)while freshman Josh Laban had a season-best 1:00.18 time in the 100-yard breaststroke.
In the 1-meter diving competitions, senior Imre Lengyel (Budapest, Hungary) wonfor the men with a score of 242.85 and senior Michelle Davison won with a scoreof 222.60.
Lengyel took first in the men’s 3-meter competition (236.00) and Davison won thewomen’s competition with a score of 207.95.
The Miami diving team next competes in the All-Star Diving Invitational in Orlando,Florida from February 8th-10th. The swimming team returns to action with a dualmeet with Indian River Community College on February 9th in Ft. Pierce, Florida.
