Coral Gables, Fla. – (www.hurricanesports.com) – Miami defeated FloridaMemorial 3-0 (30-19, 30-24 & 30-21) Friday night in Opa Locka, Fla.
The Hurricanes improve to 6-4 on the season.

Freshmen Valeria Tipiana (Lima, Peru) and Elizabeth Tyson (Jacksonville, Fla.)led the team in kills with eight each. Freshman Mallorey James (Tucson, Ariz.)contributed a team-high 19 assists and four digs.

Miami was led on defense by freshman middle blocker Sandra Totten (Thermal, Calif.)with 11 digs, one solo block and five assisted blocks. Totten also scored sixkills.
Senior Kristi Sprinkel scored four serving aces to raise her season total to 15.Sprinkel also had six kills, six digs and two block assists.

UM will stay on the road for its next match — an October 1st date at FloridaA&M in Tallahassee. The next evening, at 7 p.m., the Hurricanes face off againstrival Florida State. The match will be televised by the Sunshine Network.

The Hurricanes will play at Florida International on Friday, October 5th at 7:30p.m. The match was rescheduled in the wake of the terrorist attacks on September11th.

Miami’s next home match is against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on October 11, 2001at 7 p.m.
