Women's Basketball Hosts The Gatorade Holiday Classic
CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team (6-2) returns to action hosting the annual Gatorade Holiday Classic, Dec. 27-28 at Knight Sports Complex.
Yale (5-3) and Bowling Green (2-7) meet in the first round at 5 p.m. Thursday, followed by the Hurricanes vs. Lehigh (4-5) at 7 p.m. Play continues Friday with the consolation game at 5 p.m. and the championship at 7 p.m.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 92-77 win over Florida Atlantic nearly two weeks ago.
Meghan Saake (Wellington, Fla.) led the team to victory scoring a career-high 24 points.
The junior earned BIG EAST Player of the Week for the first time in her career after connecting on 10-of-15 field goals, including 18 second half points to lead Miami.
Saake also leads the UM offense averaging 12.8 points per game.
The Hurricanes are undefeated at home this season with a perfect 4-0 record in Knight Sports Complex.
Lehigh, a member of the Patriot League, has lost two in a row, falling 93-63 to Virginia Commonwealth on Thursday Dec. 20. Junior Anne Tierney led Mountain Hawks with 22 points in the game and leads the team in scoring averaging 16.4 points per game.
