Women's Basketball Opens Season With Iona

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami women’s basketball team will open the 2001-02 season against Iona Sunday, Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. in the Knight Sports Complex on the UM campus.
Miami will face Iona for the first time ever and looks to win its fifth consecutive season opener. The Hurricanes are 21-8 all-time in season openers.
Miami returns nine letterwinners, including four starters from last years 13-15 club.
Head coach Ferne Labati enters her 14th season at the helm of the Hurricane basketball program. Labati is the all-time winningest women’s basketball coach at Miami with a record of 231-147.
Iona fell Friday night in its season opener to FIU, 98-36.
The game will be broadcast live on WVUM (90.5 FM).

In conjunction with the Miami Athletic Department and the Women’s Basketball team, the Daily Bread Food Bank will be sponsoring a food drive during the first two women’s basketball games.
A special discounted ticket ($2) will be offered to those who bring (3) non-perishable items to the Hecht Athletic Center on the day of the game.
Donations will be taken during the first two games of the season. The last day to donate your non-perishable items will be November 21st, as your Hurricanes play Northwestern at the KSC. Game time is 7:00pm.
