Miami Swimmers Fall To FSU

Tallahassee, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami men’s swimming and diving team dropped a 142-57 decision to Florida State Saturday while the Hurricane women’s team fell 147-75 to the Seminoles in a dual meet held in Tallahassee, FL.

The Miami men where led by its divers who registered 30 points in the 1-meter and 3-meter competitions. UM swept the 1-meter with senior All-America Imre Lengyel finishing first, senior All-American Stefan Ahrens placing second and freshman Miguel Velazquez taking third.

In the 3-meter it was Velazquez earning the victory while Lengyel placed third and Ahrens fourth.

Senior Wesley Stoddard led the Hurricanes in the swimming events registering a victory in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 9:47.98 and a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:44.46).

Miami’s women divers were also dominant. Senior Michelle Davidson took first in the 1-meter and second in the 3-meter, while sophomore Melanie Davidson finished second in the 1-meter and third in the 3-meter.

Sophomore Manon van Rooijen was Miami’s lone individual winner in the women’s swimming events finishing first in the 200-yard freestyle (1:53.53).

The Hurricanes return to action on Saturday, October 20 when they travel to Gainesville for the Gator Relays.
