Volleyball Set to Defend Home Court

Coral Gables, Fla. – (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miamivolleyball team returns to action at the Knight Sports Complex on Friday evening,September 21st in a match against the Jacksonville University Dolphins.
The Hurricanes enter the contest at 3-4 while Jacksonville is winless at 0-6.Most recently, the Dolphins went 0-3 in the War Eagle Invitational at Auburn wherethey lost to Syracuse (0-3), Charlotte (1-4) and Auburn (0-3).
Miami is returning to Coral Gables after a 0-3 loss at Florida Atlantic on Tuesdaynight.
Miami and Jacksonville have a common opponent in UAB. Both teams lost to the Blazersby the same score: 2-3.
After seven matches, junior outside hitter Marcela Gamarra (Medellin, Colombia)leads the Hurricanes with 106 kills on 223 attempts with 20 errors for a killpercentage of 4.24. Both Sandra Totten (Thermal, California) and Elizabeth Tyson(Jacksonville, Florida) have a kill percentage of 2.44. Totten has 61 kills on161 attempts with 27 errors and Tyson has 44 kills on 130 attempts with 26 errors.
With freshman setter Mallorey James (Tucson, Arizona) sidelined at the beginningof the season after leg surgery, freshman Jamie Grass (Manhattan Beach, California)stepped in and has provided the Hurricanes with 146 assists. James has since fullyrecovered and has 129 assists after returning to the court.
Defensively, Jamie Grass has 84 digs and Sandra Totten has 74. Senior middle blockerKristi Sprinkel (Laguna Beach, California) leads in solo blocks (4) and blockassists (20). Both Valeria Tipiana (Lima Peru) and Sandra Totten have 16 blockassists. Additionally, Totten has four solo blocks.
Kristi Sprinkel has scored ten serving aces while Jamie Grass has nine and MarcelaGamarra has eight.
Miami has a 2-1 home record at the Knight Sports Complex. Jacksonville has nothad a home match yet this season and is 0-6 on the road.
