UM Cross Country Teams Getting Ready For 2001 Season

Coral Gables, FL – The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams will once again face some of the toughest competition from around the nation this coming season.

The Hurricanes open their 2001 season at the Central Florida Invitational, September 7, in Orlando, FL before returning to Miami for the FIU Invitational on September 13. UM then travels to Tallahassee for the Florida Intercollegiate Championships on September 22.

Miami will once again compete at the prestigious Disney Invitational (October 6) in Orlando and then host the Greentree Invitational in the regular season finale on October 12.

The Hurricanes then travel to New York for the BIG EAST Championships on October 26 followed by the NCAA Regional Championships, November 10, in Birmingham, AL. The NCAA Cross Country Championships are scheduled for November 19 in Greenville, SC.

The Hurricane men return six runners from last season’s squad that finished third in the state. UM will be led this season by seniors Jeff Gaulrapp (Baldwinsville, NY) and Dan Boniface (Seattle, WA).

Gaulrapp was Miami’s top finisher in all eight meets last season while recording four meet victories. His three consecutive wins to open the season established a UM record. In addition, Gaulrapp went on to earn All-State and All-Region honors.

Boniface was the Hurricanes’ No. 2 ranked runner last season recording five top-8 finishes, including a fourth-place finish at the Florida Intercollegiate Championships to earn All-State honors.

The Miami women may have lost All-Region performer Shannon Sarabyn to graduation but a talented group of runners return from last season’s squad that took fifth in the state.Leading the way will be senior Jennifer Geroux (Balto, MD). Last season Geroux finished in the top-13 at six competitions including top-4 finishes in the year’s first three meets.
