Emry Second In Decathlon After Day One

PISCATAWAY,NJ (www.hurricanesports.com) — University of Miamisenior Guy Emry (Monument, CO) posted season-bests in four of five events andis in second-place after the first day of competition in thedecathlon at theBIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Piscataway,NJ.
Emry recorded season-best marks in the 100-meters (11.23), shotput (13.08 meters), 400-meters (49.69) and long jump (6.45 meters) en route toa first day total of 3,676 points. William Thomas of Connecticut leads theevent after posting afirst day total of 3,859 points.
“I thought things went very well today,” said Emry. “I recordedseason bests in four events, and I have three of my best events coming uptomorrow (110-hurdles, discus, pole vault). I think I’ve positioned myselfwell and feel very goodabout my chances of winning this championshiptomorrow.”
Miami has dominated the decathlon since the BIG EAST added it tothe conference championship in 1998. Former UM All-American Aaron Moser wonall three BIG EAST titles from 1998-2000 and Emry is attempting to keep theHurricane decathlontradition in tact.
“Aaron has already told me he expects me to bring the title backto Coral Gables,” commented Emry.
On the women’s side freshman Teresa Ingraham recorded a first daytotal of 2334 points and is in 11th place in the heptathlon.
