Wilfork, Buchanon Shine At Meyo Invitational

South Bend, IN – Miami freshman Vince Wilfork (Lantana, FL) set a school-record in the shot put while sophomore Phillip Buchanon (Lehigh, FL) won the 60-meter dash for the second straight week to highlight competition at the Meyo Invitational in South Bend, IN.

Wilfork, a defensive lineman on the Hurricanes’ football team and competing in just his second collegiate meet, recorded a throw of 16.98 meters (55-08.50) breaking his own school record of 16.63 meters (54-06.75) set last weekend in winning the Husky Invitational in Boston, MA.

Buchanon, a defensive back on the UM football team, led a one-two Hurricanes finish in the 60-meters finishing first with a time of 6.79. Miami sophomore Andre Johnson (Miami Senior), also a member of the UM football team as a wide receiver, took second with a time of 6.87. The one-two finish marks the second straight week that the two have finished one-two in the event.

The Hurricanes return to action February 17-18 at the BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships in Syracuse, NY.
