Women's Basketball Hosts The Gatorade Holiday Classic

CORAL GABLES, Fla.–The University of Miami women’s basketball team (4-4) continues a six-game homestand when it hosts the annual Gatorade Holiday Classic, Dec. 28-29 at Knight Sports Complex.
George Mason (7-2) and Western Michigan (1-7) meet in the first round at 7 p.m. Thursday, followed by the Hurricanes versus New Hampshire (3-6) at 9 p.m. Play continues Friday with the consolation game at 7 p.m. and the championship at 9 p.m.
The Hurricanes are coming off a 67-55 loss to Fairfield last Friday. Two UM players scored in double figures, led by sophomore Alicia Hartlaub (12) and junior Sheila James (11), respectively.
Freshman Chanivia Broussard (Miami, Fla.) leads the UM offense with 11.0 points per game.
New Hampshire, a member of the America East Conference, has not played in 15 days, falling 56-39 to Massachusetts on Wednesday Dec. 13. Senior Kelly Donohue was the lone player to score in double digits as she led New Hampshire with 11 points.
UNH, which posted a 13-15 record last season, has collected wins over Brown, Dartmouth and Towson.
Junior Anna Matthias leads the Wildcats with 13.8 points per game.George Mason, out of the Colonial Athletic Association, is coming off a win over Manhattan.
The Patriots are led by senior guard Jen Surlas, who averages 14.1 points and 3.2 rebounds per game.
Western Michigan, from the Mid-American Conference, is coming off an 89-56 loss to Loyola Marymount. The Broncos are led by forward Karen Deurloo and guard Sarah Hurrle.
The Miami/New Hampshire game will be broadcast live on WVUM (90.5 FM).
