Women's Crew Competes At Rivanna Romp

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami varsity eight finished sixth out of 15 boats entered at the annual Rivanna Romp regatta at the Rivanna Reservoir in Charlottesville, VA.

The boat, featuring rowers Sheila Cornelius, Jenny Krawec, Dorien ten Have, Amanda Turner, Monika Manios, Ananda Chou, Jacqui Julien, Marijka VanderPol and coxswain Jenny Lee, finished in a time of 14:18.6.

Miami’s “B” entry finished in 11th with a time of 14:45.6. The “B” boat featured Jordanna Heywood, Cathy Dunnet, Stephanie Tilley, Trisha Blackwell, Kate Weeden, Bridgett Gallagher, Yianna Reizakis, Ruza Rebac and coxswain Cina Quezada.

The University of Virginia “A” boat took first in the race with a time of 13:45.7, ahead of second place Ohio State (13:46.6) and Virginia “B” (14:11.3).

Competing in the race were boats from Duke, Clemson, Georgetown, Ohio State, North Carolina, Miami and host-school Virginia.

In the varsity four race, the Hurricanes finished seventh with their “A” entry with a time of 15:44.2. Virginia “A” won the race with a time of 15:08.2, followed by Virginia “B” (15:11.3) and Ohio State (15:13.7). UM’s “B” entry finished in 15th place in the 19-boat field.

The Hurricanes “A” four consisted of Cornelius, Krawec, ten Have, Turner and Lee, while the “B” four were Caroline Stuart, Lindsey Tarabula, Bernadette Lack, Ansley McGarity and coxswain Meg Venezia.

The Rivanna Romp was the last event for the varsity crew during the fall semester. The novice women will take place in the Fall Freshmen Regatta in Melbourne, FL on Saturday, November 18.
