Coral Gables, FL – Former University of Miami men’s basketball manager Adam Blomberg (Cooper City, FL) has been named one of 16 winners of the Sears Directors’ Cup Postgraduate Scholarship Award given out annually by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and Sears, Roebuck and Co.

Blomberg, who will receive a $5,000 grant to be used towards postgraduate studies, was selected from 207 nominees from the NCAA Divisions I, II and III and the NAIA. Blomberg will receive his award on June 13 at NACDA’s Scholarship Awards Luncheon.

Sears Directors’ Cup postgraduate scholarships are reserved for students who have served in an athletic support capacity at four-year institutions. Each nominee must have a minimum grade point average of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, demonstrate involvement on the collegiate or community level and maintain full-time status as a senior.

Blomberg, a team manger for the men’s basketball team at UM from 1995-99, earned a 3.75 GPA in microbiology and immunology with a minor in biology and chemistry.

Blomberg survived a near-fatal car crash in 1995 and overcame a severe head injury to attend Miami. He created a multimedia presentation, “Driving Responsibly,” promoting the use of seat belts in automobiles, which he has delivered to a variety of organizations in the community. Blomberg is a member of the Iron Arrow Honor Society, the highest honor attained at Miami. He has also been inducted into several honor societies including Omicron Delta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, Gamma Sigma Alpha Greek and Alpha Lambda Delta Freshman.

Blomberg also served on the executive board of the microbiology and immunology club and has volunteered at the William Lehman Injury Research Center, Jackson Memorial Hospital Ryder Trauma Center and the Miami Rescue Mission. Blomberg will begin medical school at the University of Miami in the fall.

Along with the $5,000 grant, Blomberg has also been awarded an additional $1,000 postgraduate scholarship from NACDA. Each year the Sears Directors’ Cup Postgraduate Scholarship program awards $1,000 scholarships to senior members of the athletics support staff from institutions that win a NCAA or NAIA championship. Blomberg’s $1,000 scholarship was awarded for Miami’s 1999 NCAA National Championship in baseball.
