Hurricane Women Sign Point Guard

May 10, 2000

Coral Gables, FL – Head women’s basketball coach Ferne Labati announces the signing of 5-6 guard Hutashi Wilson (Toronto, Canada) to a national letter of intent to attend the University of Miami next fall. Wilson selected Miami over Northwestern, Seton Hall and Toledo.

“Hutashi (Wilson) is a tremendous defensive player,” said Labati. “She is quick and strong, and will really help us in our pressure defense. Offensively she has the ability to penetrate and dish as well as step out and hit from three-point range. Her addition will help us off-set the loss of Gina Graziani.”

Wilson was a Toronto Star All-City selection last season after averaging 20 points, four rebounds, five assists and three steals in leading Michael Power High School to a 24-4 record and a trip to the Ontario Province finals.

“I felt very comfortable with the coaches and players,” said Wilson. “I liked the fact that Miami is a private school with smaller classes, and playing in a competitive conference like the BIG EAST is very exciting.”

Wilson is the fourth player to sign with Miami joining 6-7 center EdMarie Lumbsly (Kingston, Jamaica), 6-4 center Shannon Presswood (Orangeville, Ontario, Canada) and 6-2 forward Shaquana Wilkins (Orlando, Florida).
