Myrick, Moss And Moser Honored

COCONUT GROVE, FL – Junior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern)was named the Most Outstanding Women’s Track Athlete, while juniors SantanaMoss (Carol City) and Aaron Moser (Bonne Terre, MO) were named the men’sCo-Most Outstanding Track Athletes at the annual University of Miami Trackand Field banquet at Monty’s in Coconut Grove.
Myrick, the 2000 BIG EAST Most Outstanding Track Athlete, won the100- and 200-meter titles in leading the Hurricanes to a second-place finishat last weekend’s BIG EAST Outdoor Track and Field Championships inPiscataway, NJ.
Moss, who led the Hurricanes’ football team with 889 receiving yardslast season, was named the 2000 BIG EAST Most Outstanding Field Performerafter winning the long jump and triple jump titles at this weekend’s BIGEAST Outdoor Championships.Moss’s winning leap in the long jump (26-02.25) ranks seventh in the nationand automatically qualifies him for the NCAA Track and Field Championships,May 31-June 6, in Durham, NC.
Moser recorded a UM and BIG EAST record score of 7,358 in winninghis third consecutive decathlon title at the BIG EAST Outdoor Championships.Moser ranks 10th in the nation in the decathlon and has provisionallyqualified for the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The women’s Most Outstanding Newcomer Award went to middle distancerunner Patricia Pearson (Jacksonville, FL). All-American triple jumperKareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) was named the women’s track Most ImprovedAthlete while hurdler Gus Martin (Miami Northwestern) was named the men’s Most Improved Athlete. Senior sprinter Katreshia Louis and senior All-American Caldrequis Lesley were presented theCoaches Awards given annually to the women’s and men’s track athletes thatmost exhibits the traits of dedication and hard work.
Other award recipients included Nick Gramsky (Chesapeake Beach, MD)and Shannon Sarabyn (Centreville, VA) as Most Valuable Cross Countryrunners. Junior sprinter Daryl Jones (Dallas, TX) was named the men’s trackUnsung Hero while the Dr. Matt Karlafris Award given annually to the team’stop walk-on went to sprinter/hurdler Pedro Rodriguez (Marabella, Spain).
