Miami Swimming and Diving Honored

CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams announced their award winners at their annual banquet at Monty’s Stone Crab.
The banquet was held to honor this year’s seniors and to celebrate the completion of another successful season for the men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams. The men finished the year with an 11th place finish at the NCAA’s, while the women finished in 17th.
At the banquet, the Hurricanes presented their Team MVP, IBIS, Unsung Hero and Most Improved Swimmer awards. Scott Gentles and Jen Weir won the MVP awards for the swimming team, while Tyce Routson and Jenny Keim won the diving MVP’s. Dan Asencio, Julie Kemp and Elaine Schwartz earned the IBIS award, while John Stevens was voted the Unsung Hero and Wesley Stoddard and Keeley Smith earned the most improved swimmer awards.
The evening was highlighted by the honoring of 2000 NCAA National Champions Tyce Routson and Jenny Keim and 2000 NCAA Diving Coach of the Year Randy Ableman.
The 2000 season marked the sixth consecutive year and the ninth time in 12 years that Ableman has been honored as the NCAA Coach of the Year. It also marked the 10th consecutive year that the Miami men have won at least one diving national championship, as well as the fifth straight year that the Hurricanes have had multiple diving national champions.
