Men's Swimming And Crew Teams To Be Phased Out

CORAL GABLES, Fla. — University of Miami Athletic Director Paul Dee announcedtoday that the men’s swimming and diving program and men’s crew programwould be phased-out over the next three years rather than terminated atseason’s end. On February 28, the university announced that the programswould be dropped at the end of the academic year to bring UM’s athleticdepartment within Title IX requirements pertaining to participation ratios.The decision to phase-out the teams was reached after Dee and UM PresidentEdward T. Foote II met with team representatives and family members latelast week. This enables the student-athletes from the two programs tocompete for the university for the entirety of their college eligibility.
“This will provide an excellent opportunity for thosestudent-athletes to complete their collegiate careers by fully participatingin intercollegiate athletics until the time of their graduations,” said Dee.
