Myrick Shatters UM record

SYRACUSE, NY – Junior Wyllesheia Myrick shattered the UM record and automatically qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200-meter dash on Sunday at the BIG EAST Championships. Myrick’s time of 23.69 beat the old UM record of 23.95 by over a quarter of a second.
In addition to Myrick’s record-setting performance, she also finished in third place in the 60-meter dash (7.51), and ran on the 4×400-meter relay team, featuring freshman Jamillah Wade, freshman Saraque Whittaker, and sophomore Jenise Winston, that brought home second place (3:41.55).
The Hurricanes also received stellar performances from other members of the team on the last day of the BIG EAST Championships. Sophomore Kareen Clarke took home first-place in the triple jump with a leap of 13.19m (43-03.25), while freshman Adrienne Moss, once again broke her own school-record in the shot put with a toss of 14.56m (47-09.25) to bring home second-place. The `Canes 4×800-meter relay team, featuring senior Danika Dodds, senior Leatrice Shaw, freshman Patricia Pearson and junior Natalie Watson, dominated their event, bringing home first-place. Pearson, also took tallied a first-place finish in the 800-meter (2:09.69), while Watson trailed her by .69 to grab second.
Miami also received points from sophomore Sharianne Lawson, who took fifth in the 60-meter hurdles (8.53), Whittaker and Dodds, who took fourth (1:13.27) and fifth (1:13.32) in the 800-meter, sophomore Jenise Winston, who took fourth in the 400-meter (56.13), and sophomore Raquel Scott leapt to a fifth place finish in the triple jump at 12.08m (39-07.75).
