Miami Breaks Two School Marks At Gator Invitational

Gainesville, FL – Sophomore Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) set a school record in the triple jump (13.00 meters) while junior Natalie Watson (Coral Springs) broke her own school record in the 800-meters (2:08.47) at the Gator Invitational in Gainesville, FL.

Clarke and Watson both finished fourth in their events and provisionally qualified for the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships in Fayetteville, AR (Mar. 10-11). Overall the Hurricanes had eight athletes provisionally qualify for the NCAA Championships.

Junior Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern) qualified in both the 55-meters (7.03) and 200-meters (24.20), and was a member of the 4×400-meter relay that finished fourth in an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:41.21. Joining Myrick on the relay were freshman Saraque Whittaker (St. Thomas Aquinas), freshman Patricia Pearson (Jacksonville, FL) and sophomore Jenise Winston (League City, TX).

Junior Antonikka Owens (Orlando, FL), who took fifth in the triple jump, provisionally qualified with a leap of 12.82 meters. Senior Danika Dodds (Coral Gables) provisionally qualified in the 800-meters (2:09.97) while finishing fifth.

Miami was impressive throughout the day placing athletes in the top six in 9 of the 18 events, including a first-place finish in the distance medley event.

The Hurricanes return to action on Friday, February 11 when they head to Indianapolis, IN for the Canon IV meet.
