General Hurricane Club Questions
1. Why does the Hurricane Club need my support?
UM Athletics rely on charitable contributions from donors to keep its programs at the highest level. All donations play a critical role in the continued expansion of the student-athlete scholarship fund. As scholarship costs continue to rise (costs have increased from $5 million to over 8 million in the past three years) private gifts to the Hurricane Club become more and more important.
2. Does my contribution to the Hurricane Club allow me to receive priority seating?
Yes, your current level of donation determines priority seating at the Orange Bowl and the Convocation Center. The greater the commitment to the student-athlete scholarship fund, the better seats you will receive at our home games as a thank you for your help.
3. When do I need to make my pledge?
To receive football priority, pledges must besubmitted by May 31st. However, a pledge can be made at any time during thegiving year (January-December).
4. When does my pledge have to be paid in full?
For football priority, 50% of your pledge must be paid by May 31st. Theremaining 50% must be paid in full by August 1st.
Otherwise, donations are not due in full until December 31st of the currentgiving year. For your convenience, donations can be paid in installments.Upon request, the Hurricane Club will send out reminders to let you know thebalance of your pledge.
5. What benefits will I receive if I pledge an amount that is not specified?
A donation for any amount is greatly appreciated by the Hurricane Club. However, in order to receive the benefits designated for a certain level of giving, no less than that amount can be donated.
6. Is my gift tax deductible?
The University of Miami is a charitable organization and gifts made to it or it’s Hurricane Club are generally tax deductible by the donor in computing taxable net income. Please consult your tax advisor on the amount deductible.
