Jan. 10, 2000
CORAL GABLES, FL – The University of Miami men’s and women’s diving teams showed once again why they are the premier diving programs in the nation. At the Georgia Diving Invitational this past weekend the men and women combined to take home five of six first-place finishes, with the only non-first-place finish coming in the men’s platform diving in which the Hurricanes did not compete.
The women were led by 1999 NCAA Diver of the Year Jenny Keim (Ft. Lauderdale, FL), freshman Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, IL), and sophomore Emily Spychala (Odessa, FL). Keim won the women’s platform event, while also taking second in the 3-meter and third in the 1-meter events. Bryant took home first-place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events, while fellow diver Emily Spychala took home second in 1-meter event.
Sophomore All-American Stefan Ahrens (Lichtenhagen-Dorf, Germany) led the men’s squad with first-place finishes in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events. Red-shirt freshman Kyle Prandi (Strongsville, OH) took home a second-place finish in the 1-meter to round out the ‘Canes dominance.
The University of Miami’s Swimming and diving teams next spring into action against Rutgers University of Saturday, January 15, 2000 at the Whitten Student Union Pool on the Coral Gables Campus.
