Swimming And Diving Teams Head To Indian River

FT. PIERCE, Fla. – The University of Miami women’s swimming and diving team (3-3) secured their third straight victory with a 116-87 victory over Indian River, while the Hurricane men fell 120-84 in Ft. Pierce, FL.

The Hurricane women were led by senior All-American Amy Lindblom, junior Jen Weir, and freshman Elaine Schwartz, who all recorded multiple first-place finishes. Lindblom (Milford, CT) won both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events, while Weir (Cooper City, FL) won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events, and Schwartz (Mt. Laurel, NJ) won the 200-yard butterfly and the 200-yard individual medley. Miami also received first-place finishes from freshman Whitney Peach (York, PA), freshman Kirsten Holz (Orlando, FL), and freshman Meghan Clabby (Coral Springs, FL) in the 50-yard freestyle, 200-yard backstroke, and the 200-yard breaststroke.

On the men’s side, junior Daniel Asencio and sophomores Scott Gentles and Wesley Stoddard led the Hurricanes. Asencio (Newark, NJ) scored two second-place finishes in the 200-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley. Gentles (Atlanta, GA) recorded a first-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle and Stoddard won the 500-yard freestyle.

The ‘Canes return to action on Friday, Dec. 3 in Athens, GA when they participate in the Georgia Invitational.
