Men's Cross Country Wins Greentree Invitational

MIAMI — The University of Miami men’s Cross Country team won itsthird straight Greentree Invitational while Miami junior Shannon Sarabyn(Centreville, VA) raced to her third consecutive women’s individualGreentree title Saturday morning at Tropical Park in Miami.

The Hurricane men (34 points) placed four runners in the top-10 tooutdistance second-place Florida International (40 points). Bethune-Cookman(50 points) was third.

Miami was led by senior Nick Gramsky who finished second with a timeof 20:02.40 over the four-mile course. Florida International’s GabyRodriguez (19:55.85) won the individual title for the second consecutiveseason.

On the women’s side, Florida International (28 points) fought off astrong performance by Miami’s Shannon Sarabyn to edge the Hurricanes (29points) by a single point. The FIU victory marks the Golden Panthers’ firstGreentree Invitational title since 1996 and snaps the Hurricanes’ streak ofconsecutive Greentree titles at two. Bethune-Cookman (79 points) was third.

Sarabyn won the women’s individual title for the third consecutiveseason becoming the first woman to win three straight Greentree titles.Sarabyn, who won the title last season by more than 40 seconds, completedthe three-mile course in a time of 18:19.64 to easily outdistance FloridaInternational’s Liz Borrell (18:41.06).

The University of Miami men’s and women’s cross country teams returnto action on Sept. 11 with an Alumni meet beginning at 7 p.m. at TropicalPark in Miami. The Hurricanes then travel to Jacksonville for theJacksonville Invitational on Sept. 18.
