WQAM Selects UM Play-by-Play Team
Aug. 4, 1999
MIAMI – Sportsradio 560 WQAM is excited to announce the hiring of the new University of Miami broadcast team. Marc Vandermeer will do play-by-play, Joe Zagacki will be the color analyst, and Don Bailey, Jr. will serve as sideline reporter.
“We are extremely pleased with this announcement and feel that we have assembled the next great Miami Hurricanes broadcast team,” remarked Duff Lindsey, WQAM Program Director.
Vandermeer is new to the University of Miami as well as South Florida. He most recently was the play-by-play voice of University of Massachusetts football, basketball and baseball. Vandermeer will call UM football, basketball and baseball for WQAM.
Both Zagacki and Bailey, however, have familiarity with broadcasting University of Miami sports. Zagacki was the color analyst for UM football in the late 80’s and early 90’s, while Bailey spent the last four seasons on the Hurricanes’ broadcast crew at WINZ — the first year as a studio analyst, two years as sideline reporter, followed by a year as the color analyst.
“I am pleased with the announcer team WQAM has put together to call University of Miami football, basketball and baseball games,” added UM Athletic Director Paul Dee “Their enthusiasm and insight will be appreciated by our fans. Marc, Joe and Don will continue to carry forward the Hurricane radio tradition of outstanding announcer teams.”
Vandermeer, Zagacki and Bailey will broadcast their first UM game on August 29th when the University of Miami plays Ohio State in the Kickoff Classic at the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
