CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami women’s basketball forward Beatrice Mompremier was selected by the Los Angeles Sparks in the second round of the 2020 WNBA Draft Friday night.

The Miami native was the 20th overall pick in the virtual draft, which aired on ESPN. Mompremier will join a familiar face on the Sparks as 2012 graduate Riquna Williams currently plays in Los Angeles.

Mompremier is the sixth player in program history to be selected in the WNBA Draft, joining Adrienne Motley (2017), Shenise Johnson (2012), the aforementioned Williams (2012), Tamara James (2006) and current Miami assistant coach Octavia Blue (1998). She is the second Cane to be drafted by the Sparks, alongside Blue.

A two-time AP and WBCA All-America Honorable Mention, Mompremier averaged a double-double during her time as a Cane, posting 16.7 points and 11.4 rebounds in two seasons at Miami.

Mompremier finished her Miami career totaling 34 double-doubles and 45 double-digit scoring games in just 50 outings. She is Miami’s all-time leader in single season rebounds per game (12.2 – 2018-19) and career rebounding average (11.4), plus led the Canes in scoring and rebounding during both seasons at Miami.

Across her time at Miami and Baylor, Mompremier amassed 1,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds in 120 collegiate games.

Her illustrious career was marked by numerous accolades, including seven conference weekly awards (five – ACC, two – Big 12), 2019 ACC Preseason Player of the Year accolades and Lisa Leslie Center of the Year Award finalist status in both 2019 and 2020.
