Coral Gables, Fla. – Miami concluded its 2001 season with a 3-0 sweep offeisty St. Thomas in Opa Locka.

The Hurricanes finished on an 11-match win streak and upped their overall recordto 17-7.

Junior outside hitter Marcela Gamarra (Medellin, Colombia) led the team in attacks(804) and kills (375) for a season attack percentage of .353.

Freshman Sandra Totten (Thermal, Calif.) was second in scoring on the team with225 kills on 538 attacks (.240). Freshman hitter Valeria Tipiana (Lima, Peru)led the team in efficiency (.356) with 192 kills on 419 attacks.

Freshmen Mallorey James (Tucson, Ariz.) and Jamie Grass (Manhattan Beach, Calif.)split setting duties for the Hurricanes this season. James finished with 513 assistswhile Grass had 450. Additionally, Grass had 105 kills to 51 for James.

Defensively, Grass led the team with 279 digs and senior Kristi Sprinkel (LagunaBeach, Calif.) led in blocks with 51.5 (15 solo).
