Diaz, Hite Named All-ACC

March 6, 2006

Coral Gables, Fla. – Junior guard Guillermo Diaz (Carolina, P.R.) was named second-team All-ACC for the second consecutive season, and senior guard Robert Hite (Cincinnati, Ohio) garnered third-team All-ACC honors by a vote of the league’s media on Monday.

Diaz has started all 29 games this season and is averaging a team-high 17.3 points to go with 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He has led the team in scoring 16 times this season and currently ranks 11th on UM’s career scoring list with 1,392 points.

A two-time first-team All-District 6 selection by the NABC, Diaz ranks sixth in the league in scoring, seventh in free throw percentage and fifth in three-point field goals per game.

Against Florida State on Sunday he scored 16 points becoming just the fourth Hurricane since Miami reinstated basketball in 1985 to record 500 points in back-to-back seasons.

Hite, who was an honorable-mention All-ACC selection last season, has also started all 29 games this season. He ranks second on the team in scoring at 16.5 points per game, and is the team-leader in steals (45).

His 5.4 rebounds per game average ranks second in the ACC among players under 6-5. Hite ranks sixth on UM’s career scoring list with 1,637 points and has led the team in scoring 26 times. He also leads the team with 22 dunks this season marking the third consecutive season in which he has led the team in that category.

Hite has continued to rise in many of UM’s career statistical categories including steals (5th), free throw percentage (2nd), three-point field goals (3rd), three-point field goal percentage (3rd) and games started (5th).

Hite, who was also named first-team All-District 6 by the NABC this season, connected on four three-point field goals against Florida State becoming the first player in UM history to record 70-or-more three-point field goals in consecutive seasons.
