Alex Johnson Named ACC Volleyball Freshman of the Week

Greensboro, N.C. – The University of Miami’s Alexandria Johnson has been tabbed this week’s Atlantic Coast Conference Volleyball Freshman of the Week, announced Monday afternoon from the ACC Office in Greensboro, N.C. This is Johnson’s second ACC Freshman of the Week award, earning her first the week of September 6.

Johnson, a 6-foot outside hitter from Tallahassee, Fla., recorded her second double-double of the season in Miami’s 3-1 come-from-behind win over Virginia on Sun., Sept. 26. The Leon High School product hit at a .381 clip on the weekend with 18 kills and 24 digs in helping the `Canes to league wins against Virginia Tech and Virginia.

Against the Hokies, Johnson posted a .421 hitting percentage with eight kills and did not register an attack error in 19 attempts. She also added one block assist and two service aces as the Hurricanes swept Virginia Tech 3-0.

Johnson notched a season- and match-high 23 digs in the 3-1 victory versus Virginia. She hit .348 with 10 kills for the `Canes.

Wake Forest sophomore middle hitter Andrea Beck posted a career-high attack percentage against conference foe Georgia Tech en route to being named this week’s ACC Player of the Week.

Miami will get back to action on Fri., Oct. 1, traveling to play the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill at 7 p.m. The `Canes will stay in the Old North State to battle NC State on Sun., Oct. 3, in Raleigh at 1 p.m.
