Robert Hite Invited To Portsmouth Invitational

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami guard Robert Hite (Cincinnati, Ohio) will be participating in the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament (PIT), April 5-8, in Portsmouth, Va.

The 54th Annual Portsmouth Invitational Tournament is the nation’s oldest amateur basketball tournament, recognized by NBA and European scouts as the premier showcase for future professional players. It is the only tournament for college seniors to participate in and be evaluated by the NBA prior to the NBA’s pre-draft camp in Chicago in June.

Hite will play for Norfolk Naval Shipyard which has its first game tonight at 7 p.m. Other members of the team include 6-2 guard Carl Krauser (Pittsburgh), 6-3 guard Ben Jacobson (Northern Iowa),6-6 forward Nick George (VCU), 6-8 forward Mike Hall (George Washington), 6-7 forward Jai Lewis (George Mason), 6-10 center Michael Southall (UL-Lafayette) and 6-10 center Paul Miller (Wichita State).

Hite, a third-team All-ACC selection, started all 34 games this season averaging 16.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 1.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He led the team in steals and ranked second on the team in both scoring and rebounding.

Hite established a UM single-season record with 85 three-point field goals this season, and ends his college career fifth on Miami’s career scoring list with 1,717 points. He also leaves UM ranked among the school’s all-time leaders in three-point field goals (3rd), three-point field goal percentage (3rd), free throw percentage (2nd) and steals (4th).
