Coral Gables, Fla. – University of Miami redshirt junior setter Katie Gallagher has been named as this week’s Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) National Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 30-Sept. 5.

A day after being named the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Player of the Week, Gallagher picked up her first career national weekly award on Tuesday.

Gallagher, a 5-11 setter from Winter Park, Fla., helped the Hurricanes to a perfect weekend at the Blue Raider Bash hosted by Middle Tennessee State University, and an overall 5-0 record on the week.

To start the week, versus in-state opponent Florida Atlantic, Gallagher guided UM to a .460 team hitting percentage, tossing out 39 assists in the 3-0 sweep of the Owls.

The Hurricanes opened the Blue Raider Bash with a sweep of Auburn, and then went four against Southern Mississippi. In the victory over the Golden Eagles, Gallagher tallied 55 assists as the team hit at a .301 clip for the match. The next match was nearly a triple-double for the junior as she notched seven kills on .583 hitting to go with 49 assists, 11 digs and three blocks as Miami downed Georgia Southern in four sets, 3-1.

Finally, the Hurricanes wrapped up the four-match tournament with a victory against host Middle Tennessee State, in which Gallagher had 47 assists, nine digs and three kills on a .600 attack percentage.

For the week, the redshirt junior setter had 15 kills on .438 hitting, averaged 12.0 assists and 2.28 digs per set, all while adding nine blocks. As a team, the `Canes hit .300 through the five matches.
