Diaz Selected by L.A. Clippers in 2006 NBA Draft

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami guard Guillermo Diaz (Carolina, P.R.) was selected with the 52nd pick of the second round by the Los Angeles Clippers at the 2006 NBA Draft held in Madison Square Garden in New York, NY.

Diaz becomes the 16th Hurricane overall, and the third the last five seasons, to be selected in the NBA Draft. John Salmons was taken in the first round by the San Antonio Spurs in 2002 while James Jones was selected in the second round by the Indiana Pacers in 2003.

Diaz started all 34 games this season averaging 17.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. A two-time All-ACC selection, Diaz led the Hurricanes in scoring each of the last two seasons and ends his UM career ranked 10th on its career scoring list with 1,477 points.

Diaz, who was named first-team All-District 6 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches for the second consecutive season, ranks fourth on Miami’s all-time list for three-point field goals (174) and is fifth in career three-point field goal percentage (.380).
