CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The University of Miami rowing duo of Beth Krawec and Kelly Amsler won the pair’s race at the University of Virginia’s Rivanna Romp while the first varsity and novice eight teams came in seventh and fourth respectively Sunday at the annual event held at the Rivanna Reservoir.

Krawec and Amsler, both team captains, finished the pair’s race in a time of 17:05.67, ahead of duos from Texas and Tennessee.

“Kelly and Beth did a fantastic job in the pair race today,” head coach Robbie Tenenbaum said. “They’ve been working really hard all year to get better and I’m proud of the way they came out and performed today.”

The conditions were ideal, with the temperature rising to the 50-degree mark and the wind staying calm.

In the first varsity eight race, UM finished in seventh place in a time of 14:16.12 behind crews from host UVA, Tennessee, Texas and Ohio State. In the novice eight race, Miami came in fourth with a time of 16:48.95, finishing behind two boats from UVA and one from UT.

UM’s varsity eight was comprised of coxswain Shira Kharrazi, Julieanne Parker, Amsler, Caitlin Augustin, Hannah McKay, Marleena Eyre, Krawec, Sarah Medland and Laura Cordner. The novice team included coxswain Ashley Hutt, Lindsay Brown, Emily Wingrove, Tracy Burts, Kristin Wright, Liz Teel, Lauren Woodward, Ally Hodgkins and Whitney Gahagen.

The second varsity eight team of coxswain Christina Crocco, Rachael Sporko, Karalyn Van Aken, Stephanie Parrish, Stacey Kerr, Olivia Arkell, Louise Parry and Nic Saner finished in 14th place in a time of 15:15.92.

“Overall, I’m incredibly proud of how hard this team has worked all fall and how they came out today and raced,” Tenenbaum said. “This event gave our team an opportunity to go up against the very best teams out there. I know the team will be prepared and ready to do the training necessary to allow us to compete with the best teams out there this spring.”

The Romp marks the final race for UM this fall as the team will spend the upcoming months preparing for the spring portion of its schedule that begins on March 29 when the team travels to Orlando to race against UCF.
