THE MATCHUP:

Sacred Heart, a member of the Northeast Conference, visits Miami with a record of 4-6. The Pioneers have not played since a 73-64 loss at Monmouth on December 18. The Miami game will mark the fourth consecutive road game for Sacred Heart.

The Pioneers are led by the duo of senior center Kibwe Trim and junior forward Jarrid Frye. Trim leads the team in scoring at 18.6 points per game and ranks second in rebounding pulling down 7.4 rebounds per contest. Frye ranks second on the team in scoring averaging 17.2 points per game and leads the team in rebounding averaging 8.3 rebounds per game.

Sacred Heart is shooting 72.8 percent from the free throw line as a team and ranks 49th in the nation. Sophomore Drew Shubik ranks 34th in the nation in free throw percentage (.897) and junior Tavio Hobson ranks 45th in the nation in steals (2.5 spg).

The Hurricanes enter the game with a record of 7-6 following a 58-43 loss to 10th-ranked Louisville in the MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic on Saturday. Preseason National Player of the Year candidate Guillermo Diaz was held scoreless for just the second time of his career.

Diaz continues to lead the team in scoring at 15.8 points per game. Senior Rob Hite, who had a team-high 15 points against Louisville on Saturday, is averaging 15.1 points per game. Junior forward Anthony King (10.1 ppg) is also scoring in double figures, and leads the team in rebounding (8.0 rpg).

Five of Miami’s six losses this season have come against teams that are currently ranked or receiving votes in the Associated Press or USA Today/ESPN polls.

This will mark final regular season non-conference game of the season for Miami. Miami is 22-3 (.880) against non-conference opponents at the BankUnited Center. The Hurricanes resume ACC play on January 7 against #16/#14 Maryland at the BankUnited Center.

THINGS TO KEEP AN EYE ON:

***Robert Hite needs two points to move into 11th place on UM’s career scoring list. Hite enters the game in 12th place with 1,355 points. James Jones (1999-03) is currently 11th with 1,356 points…Hite needs 30 points to move into 10th place.

***Robert Hite needs four three-point field goals to move into third on UM’s all-time list. Hite enters the game with 167 three-point field goals. Kevin Presto (1985-89) is currently third with 170 three-point field goals.

***Anthony King needs two blocks to move into fifth-place on UM’s career list. He enters the game with 122 career blocks. Dennis Burns (1985-89) is currently fifth with 123 blocks.

THE SERIES:

This will be the first meeting between Miami and Sacred Heart.

TV/RADIO:

The Miami vs. Sacred Heart game is not being televised. The game can be heard on the Hurricane Radio Network, WQAM (560 AM). Joe Zagacki “The Voice of the Hurricanes” will call the action with Josh Darrow adding analysis. Brian London will serve as studio host. The game will also be broadcast on WVUM (90.5 FM), the University of Miami student radio network.

ON THE COACHES:

Miami head coach Frank Haith is in his second season with the Hurricanes. His record career record is 23-19 (.548), including a 7-6 mark this season.

Dave Bike is in his 28th season as head coach at Sacred Heart and has a career record of 420-376 (.528). Bike guided Sacred Heart to eight Division II NCAA Tournament appearances including the NCAA Division II National Title in 1986. Sacred Heart moved up to Division I in 1999.

MIAMI vs. NON-CONFERENCE OPPONENTS:

Since UM began conference play in 1991-92, the Hurricanes have compiled an 107-52 (.673) record against non-conference opponents, including a 76-17 (.817) mark at home. The Hurricanes are 22-3 (.880) against non-conference opponents at the BankUnited Center. Miami is 7-5 against non-conference opponents this season.
