March 7, 2006

Coral Gables, Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior guard Guillermo Diaz (Carolina, P.R.) has been named All-District IV by the United States Basketball Writers Association.

District IV consists of players from the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Florida.

This marks the third honor for Diaz in the last two weeks. Diaz was named second-team All-ACC by a vote of league’s media on Monday, and last week was named first-team All-District 6 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.

Diaz has started all 29 games this season and is averaging a team-high 17.3 points to go with 3.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He has led the team in scoring 16 times this season and currently ranks 11th on UM’s career scoring list with 1,392 points.

Diaz ranks sixth in the ACC in scoring, seventh in free throw percentage and fifth in three-point field goals per game. Against Florida State on Sunday he scored 16 points becoming just the fourth Hurricane since Miami reinstated basketball in 1985 to record 500 points in back-to-back seasons.
