CORAL GABLES, <?xml:namespace prefix=”st1″ ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”?>Fla. – The University of Miami volleyball team will host a six-team spring tournament this weekend with Barry, UCF, FAU, Lynn and Nova Southeastern joining the Hurricanes for full day of exhibition matches Saturday at the Knight Sports Complex.<?xml:namespace prefix=”o” ns=”urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”?>

Twelve matches will be played on two different courts with the first match slated for 9 a.m. between Miami and Lynn and the last contest between UCF and Nova Southeastern set for 2:30 p.m.

Miami will face all five visitors throughout the day on Court 1, with three matches scheduled for the morning and two for the afternoon session. After taking on Lynn, the Hurricanes will face FAU at 9:45 a.m., Nova Southeastern at 10:30 a.m., Barry at 1 p.m. and finally UCF at 1:45 p.m.

“Having the opportunity to play five teams on Saturday will really give us the chance to see a lot of different things out there,” head coach Nicole Lantagne Welch said. “A big tournament like this will certainly provide us with more experience and preparation heading into fall practice.”

All matches will feature two games being played to 25. There will also be an hour lunch break from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., separating the morning and afternoon sessions.

This will be the third weekend in a row the `Canes have played exhibition matches as a part of their spring training. Two weeks ago in Boca Raton, UM won seven-of-eight matches against WichitaState and FAU before splitting six matches with the University of Florida this past weekend at home.

“Our workouts this spring have been pretty intense and we’ve been working extremely hard to improve on certain things week-to-week,” sophomore outside hitter Genny Mayhew said. “Coach [Felix] Hou has come in and made a difference already in practice and it will be exciting to see how it translates into our play this weekend.”

The Hurricanes will close out their spring season at the Florida Division I Collegiate Beach Tournament, April 19 in Siesta Key, Fla.
