Former Hurricanes Diaz & Hite Sign NBA Contracts

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Former University of Miami standouts Guillermo Diaz and Robert Hite have become the latest Hurricane basketball alumni to earn NBA roster spots as the duo signed free agent contracts with the Los Angeles Clippers and New Jersey Nets, respectively, last week as announced by team offices.
Sharing the UM backcourt from 2003 to 2006, Diaz, a two-time (2005, 2006) All-ACC Second Team selection, and Hite, a 2005 All-ACC Honorable Mention and 2006 All-ACC Third Team honoree, helped lead Miami to back to back postseason appearances in 2005 and 2006.
A second round selection – 52nd overall – by the Clippers in the 2006 NBA Draft, Diaz averaged 20.1 points and 3.3 assists for CEZ Basketball Nymburk in the Czech Republic last season.
Over five games in of the 2007 NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, he averaged 10.2 points and 3.2 rebounds.
Hite, who signed as a free agent with the Miami Heat in 2006, averaged 4.3 points and 11.3 minutes over 12 games last season. He also appeared in 19 games with the NBA Development League’s Sioux Falls Skyforce, averaging 14.5 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists.
In four games with the Nets at the 2007 Orlando Pepsi Pro Summer League in July, he averaged 12.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 1.3 assists.
