Coral Gables, Fla. – Head volleyball coach Nicole Lantagne announced thesigning of three players from Texas, Pennsylvania and Florida to national lettersof intent today. It is the second recruiting class for Lantagne.

Joining the program are Karla Johnson from Houston, Texas, Robin Lewullis fromAllentown, Pennsylvania and Francheska Savage from Ft. Myers, Florida.

“We are very excited about our second recruiting class,” said Lantagne.”We are fortunate to add three players with athleticism, size and heart whoare also great students. They will definitely compliment our returning team andwe can’t wait to have them all here.”

Karla Johnson was MVP of District 15-5A at Westfield High School in Houstonthis season. The 6-1 middle blocker also threw shot and discus as a three-yearletterwinner in track.

Johnson, a member of the National Honor Society, ranks in the top 4% of her classand plans on majoring in biomedical engineering at Miami.

“Karla is a very special volleyball player in that she plays the entire game withgreat focus,” said Lantagne. “At 6’1, she has a good frame to becomeone of the strongest players on the team. She works extremely hard in every aspectof the game and plays for a very high level volleyball club that will prepareher to make an immediate impact in our program.”

Robin Lewullis helped lead Allentown Central Catholic High School to a27-3 record this season and a state title. The 6-1 middle blocker/outside hitterfrom Allentown, Pennsylvania also played basketball for Central Catholic whichwon the 2001 State Championship.

She was named East Penn All-State, District XI All-Star and 2001 StateChampionship co-captain. Lewullis is a member of the National Honor Society andPennsylvania Math League.

“Robin is coming off leading her team to a state championship,” said Lantagne.”She is a very outgoing, team oriented player. Robin also brings much neededsize to this team. She is a great blocker and has tremendous potential to developinto a top all around player. Still relatively new to the game, she has greatinstincts and work ethic that will only make her adjustment to college volleyballvery smooth.”

Francheska Savage was named All-Conference for Ft. Myers High School. Shewas also named Most Improved the past two seasons. The 6-foot middle blocker playedfor the USA South Volleyball Club and was named MVP of the All-Star game.

“Frannie is an incredible athlete,” said Lantagne. “She has unlimitedpotential and we are looking forward to working with her. Frannie has smooth feetand just elevates into the air. With training and experience, she will becomean impact player for the Hurricanes.”

Lantagne and assistants Erik Olson and April Yantis guided a young Miami teamto a 17-7 season in the program’s first year since 1981. The Hurricanes were 13-1at home and completed the season on an 11-match win streak.
