Miami Volleyball Hosts Spring Tournament

Coral Gables,Fla. (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami will host a spring volleyballtournament involving squads from the University of Kansas, Florida Atlantic, BarryUniversity and Miami-Dade Community College on April 6 at the Knight Sports Complex.

The Hurricanes play FAU at 9 AM and Kansas at 10:15 AM. After a lunch break, Miamireturns to the court to play Miami-Dade Community College at 1:45 PM and BarryUniversity at 3 PM.

All matches are free and open to the public.

The teams will playtwo games to 30 points using rally scoring and the final third game to 15 pointsif required.

Head coach Nicole Lantagne guided a young Miami team to a 17-7 overall recordlast year in its first season of volleyball since 1981. UM finished the seasonon an 11-match win streak and compiled a 13-1 home record at the Knight Complexin Coral Gables.

Miami welcomes back four of five starters from last season including senior standoutMarcela Gamarra (Medellin, Colombia). Also returning for the Hurricanes are sophomoresMallorey James (Tucson, Ariz.), Christina Hernandez (Oswego, Ill.), Ashley Youngs(West Palm Beach, Fla.), Valeria Tipiana (Lima, Peru), Jamie Grass (ManhattanBeach, Calif.) and Elizabeth Tyson (Jacksonville, Fla.).

The Hurricanes open the regular season on the road at the Wichita State Tournamentin Wichita, Kansas on August 30 against Stephen F. Austin.
