Jamie Grass excels on court and in class

Freshman Jamie Grass, an outside hitter on Miami’s volleyball team, has beenselected the October 2001 Academic All-Star after leading the Hurricanes offthe court as well as on.

Grass, a team leader in both defense and offense, is majoring inArchitecture and has attained academic excellence in her first year atMiami. She also succeeded in becoming a team defensive leader, with the mosttotal digs and digs per game average, and an offensive leader with thesecond-most assists and assists per game.

Grass developed her leadership skills at Mira Costa High School, where shewas a standout player for the No. 2-ranked high school in the nation hersenior year. Grass helped her team win the 2000 Chicago Nike Challenge,Santa Barbara tournaments, the Las Vegas Tournaments, and the New YearsClassic. Grass was also a four-year scholar-athlete and member of the honorroll. All these accomplishments led her to earn a Silver Medal at theJunior Olympics in Sydney Australia the summer before entering theUniversity of Miami.
